Anna Lapwood Returns!
Member of the British Empire Anna Lapwood will be returning to play an organ concert at Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall on Friday, May 1, 2026. Ms. Lapwood has taken the classical music world by storm over the last few years and has utilized social media platforms to bring the pipe organ back to the foreground of music. Playing themes from How to Train Your Dragon, Pirates of the Caribbean, and The DaVinci Code has impressed audiences that the pipe organ can not only play the classical works long associated with it but also modern compositions, thrilling audiences of all ages. This performance will be the world premiere of The Lord of the Rings Organ Symphony.
Tours
This extraordinary journey will take visitors through Boardwalk Hall as they learn about its history and architecture. The tour will include a walk-through of two of the large organ chambers, and you will get up close to the seven-manual console that the organist uses to control the instrument to create an incredible musical experience. The tour includes a visit to the restoration shop to meet the members of the restoration team and the dedicated volunteers to learn more about the amazing restoration project. Tours take place from April to December.
History
Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City contains two of the most important musical treasures in the world - the Midmer-Losh and Kimball pipe organs. The Midmer-Losh is the largest and loudest musical instrument on Earth. Both of these engineering marvels were groundbreaking in their day and still hold many of those titles today.
Education
Pipe organs have many educational aspects that are great studies for all of the STEAM subjects. Our team enjoys taking the opportunity to teach all age groups through tours and classes about how the pipe organ works and how each subject is represented extensively.
Preservation
Besides being record holders, both the Midmer-Losh and Kimball pipe organs are major pieces of American musical history. Every piece that we restore is documented and cleaned with great care. We take pride in the small part we play in the long history of both of these musical treasures.
